NORTH-WEST CENTRE FOR LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT

  A place of opportunity

The North West Centre was established in 1978 and the focus of our work is the delivery of vocational training mainly through accredited courses. Since its formation, the Centre has been concerned with the historical problems of long-term unemployment in the City and the resulting social and economic problems. We are a socially responsive provider of learning, with a person centered ethos and are committed to the life-long learning needs of all communities in the wider North West. We work towards empowering people with the skills and knowledge needed to grasp new opportunities and offer a wide range of services such as: training; advice on training; work placements; re-skilling; career guidance; information, delivery and support services.

The Centre has been is a registered Charity and tenders for funding in order to offer a comprehensive range of learning projects which are offered to participants and can include financial support in terms of childcare and travel. Our projects have always sought to attract members of the community who may have difficulty in availing of mainstream training and education provision and we actively target: long-term unemployed; young people; women, disabled, those with health problems, lone parents, ethnic minorities, etc.

We aim to

  • Provide a supportive learning environment;
  • Identity individual / personal barriers;
  • Develop and implement individual learning plans
  • Offer work sampling sessions;
  • Work towards improving each individual’s capacity to seek

    find and secure employment in a career which is

    best suited to their abilities and talents;

  • Support all participants towards attaining their goals.

All of our programmes are designed to be inclusive and offer ongoing support.
